Anna Tyrrell is a licensed professional counselor and licensed social worker. She has over twenty years experience working in the field of domestic violence in various capacities: as a child and family therapist; as an advocate, educator, and children’s counselor at a battered women’s shelter; as a facilitator of treatment groups for battered women, children as witnesses, and men who batter; and as a local and national speaker.
Anna Tyrrell is an experienced trainer. She has provided training to professionals working with victims of domestic violence, including counselors, social workers, attorneys, doctors, nurses and mediators. She has also been a consultant to social service agencies and medical facilities on the development of policies, procedures, and staff training addressing the service needs of victims of abuse.
Anna is also mediator specializing in family, divorce and custody issues. She was a mediator with the Lake County Court of Domestic Relations and with the Mediation Program of the Cuyahoga County Department of Justice Affairs. Anna developed a mediation program for juvenile domestic violence offenders, and is recognized by the Supreme Court of Ohio as an advanced trainer for mediators on domestic violence issues in mediation. She is currently a Parenting Coordinator with the Lake County Domestic Relations Court.
A noted speaker, Anna has provided countless presentations addressing issues relating to domestic violence, interpersonal violence and harassment, bully issues, child development, parenting, mediation, and a variety of issues children face today. Nationally, Anna has presented workshops on date abuse prevention programs, intervention with young children who witness violence, and other topics regarding interpersonal conflict/violence and mediation for the Association for Conflict Resolution, National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, the Supreme Court of Ohio, the Ohio Counselors Association, National Organization for Women, the Convening Conference of Crisis Hotlines, the ADR Section of the State Bar of Michigan, and the New York State Council on Divorce Mediation.
Throughout her career Anna has volunteered as a counselor, trainer, consultant and board member for a variety of agencies and organizations, including Girl Scouts, Family Planning Association, and the Greater Cleveland Elder Abuse Roundtable. She has served as President of the North Central Ohio Counselor’s Association and has been active in promoting professional counselors.
In 2002, she was recognized for her accomplishments by being named “Counselor of the Year” by the Ohio Counseling Association. Other awards include the “Community Rescuer Award” by Project Love, an organization promoting tolerance in youth, and the “Thanks Badge” and “Community Appreciation Award”, by the Girl Scouts of Lake Erie Council.
Anna currently has a private practice in Willoughby providing counseling, mediation, divorce support, and training services. She is also the director and owner of Common Ground Conflict Resolution Services, a mediation center which specializes in reducing conflicts for people who need to get along.
