Joan Litzow has practiced Family Law since 1984. A graduate of Valparaiso University, she received her Master’s Degree from Indiana University and her law degree from Case Western Reserve University. She has been an adjunct faculty member at Case Western Reserve University School of Law, and is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association, Cleveland Bar Association and Cuyahoga County Bar Association. Joan is also trained as a Mediator in Family Law.
In 2001, Joan was among the first 11 attorneys in Cuyahoga County to be certified as a Specialist in the field of Family Relations Law by the Ohio State Bar Association. Her practice is limited to Family Law, and she is experienced in all aspects of the domestic relations practice, including complex financial litigation, child custody issues, support issues, post-decree matters, and the like. She practices in Cuyahoga, Geauga, and Lake counties.
Joan firmly believes that most people who are terminating their marriages benefit from an approach which focuses on the needs of the children, the interests of both spouses, and resolution of cases considering the future of the family in a new configuration, rather than a “slash and burn” approach designed only to harm the other spouse at the expense of all.
Throughout more than 20 years of practicing Family Law, Joan has seen firsthand how the utilization of dispute resolution models which avoid needless litigation can benefit people going through divorce. She is experienced in assisting her clients through the divorce process in a manner which preserves their dignity and integrity during a time of crisis, and she often guides her clients to achieve resolutions which avoid litigation and further conflict.
